Name: Nine Arches Press; Under the Radar Magazine

Deadline: submissions window short fiction: 1st June – 7th July; Poetry: 7th June

Wordcount: up to 2,500 words for short fiction; up to six poems

Genre: Short Fiction; Poetry

Description: Under the Radar is a magazine on new contemporary writing and is published twice a year by Nine Arches Press. They welcome submissions of poetry and short fiction to the magazine. They are unable to offer for poems or short stories selected for publication, but they do send a complimentary copy of the magazine and offer discounts on subscription for featured writers.

Description: Neither Fish Nor Foul is an online literary journal that publishes the odd, the not quite, the nearly and the almost because they believe in writing for the sheer joy. They encourage writers to be bold, be playful, and to edit until it shines. As stated on their website, they read every story with care and respect. Every submission will get a response and they will also offer some feedback if they feel they have something constructive to offer.

Description: Big Thinking Publishing is a small, independent UK publisher, they are currently looking for submissions for issue #6 of their quarterly magazine Poems, Tales & Other English Words. They publish short fiction, flash, poetry, essays, and artwork from emerging and established creators. The theme for issue #6 is ‘What We Carry’. The theme can be interpreted metaphorically, emotionally, literary, or something unexpected. As a non-profit publication they are unable to offer payment for submissions.

Description: As stated on their website, Renard Press have been publishing a series of poetry anthologies that provide a platform for voices around the globe with a particular eye on those who feel they have not been traditionally well represented in the publishing mainstream. They want the next poetry anthology in this series, scheduled for November, to be a wide-ranging exploration of nature, a cry for change and a celebration of the forces for good all around us. First prize is £200, second prize £100, and all the poems on the shortlist will be published in a volume.

Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize

Genre: Poetry; Fiction; Life-Writing

Description: The seventeenth edition of the Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize is now open for original entries and entries in translation across fiction, life-writing, and poetry. The prize supports writers who have not yet published a book-length work, with no limits on age, gender, nationality, or background. The winner of each category will receive a £1,000 cash prize and publication in the Wasafiri magazine. The judges for the prize are: Ella Wakatama, Santanu Bhattacharya, Jen Calleja, and Mona Kareem.
