Ecotone
Ecotone, the literary magazine dedicated to reimagining place, welcomes work from a wide range of voices. An ecotone is a transition zone between two adjacent ecological communities, containing the characteristic species of each. It is therefore a place of danger or opportunity, a testing ground. The magazine explores the ecotones between landscapes, literary genres, scientific and artistic disciplines, identities, and modes of thought.

khōréō
khōréō is a quarterly magazine of speculative fiction and migration, dedicated to diversity and elevating the voices of immigrant and diaspora authors. We publish fiction, genre non-fiction, and art; our stories include fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and any genre in between or around it — as long as there’s a speculative element. We’re especially interested in writing and art that explores migration. Examples include themes of immigration, diaspora, and anti-colonialism, as well as more metaphorical interpretations of the term. Any act of migration, whether voluntary or forced, requires a recalibration of self-identity. We are defined, after all, by the environment that surrounds us: people, language, food, smell, sound. To change any one of them may be disorienting; to change them may leave us adrift. What better medium to explore this sensation than speculative fiction, where the author must create a new world for the reader to inhabit?

The Anthology Travel Writing Competition is open to original and previously unpublished travel articles in the English language by writers of any nationality, living anywhere in the world. We are looking for an engaging article that will capture the reader’s attention, conveying a strong sense of the destination and the local culture.

The Word Exchange
The Word Exchange competition is part of A Poet in Every Port, the Southbank Centre's national project celebrating poetry in coastal communities. It’s all about nurturing the languages and dialects found across the UK, from the isles of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall, to show that poetry is for everyone. We’re asking people across the country to submit their own Word Exchange poems, using the unique words and phrases from their local area, with the winner given a platform to perform their poem live on stage at the London Literature Festival in 2027.

The Common
The Common publishes pieces of literature that embody particular times and places both real and imagined; from deserts to teeming ports; from Winnipeg to Beijing; from Earth to the Moon: literature and art powerful enough to reach from there to here. In short, we seek a modern sense of place. In our hectic and sometimes alienating world, themes of place provoke us to reflect on our situations and both comfort and fascinate us. Sense of place is not provincial nor old fashioned. It is a characteristic of great literature from all ages around the world. It is, simply, the feeling of being transported, of “being there.”

Kweli Journal
Kweli’s mission is to nurture emerging writers of color, including poets and writers of fiction, nonfiction and hybrid literatures, and create opportunities for their voices to be recognized and valued. A literary space for the eco-gothic, the eco-horrific, the eco-surrealist, and the eco-weird. Including eco-fiction (broadly defined), eco-horror, eco-gothic/antigothic, haunted/unhaunted landscapes, transcorporeality, eco-surrealism/existentialism/absurdism, complex/flawed characters, interiority. Any other uses of eco-fiction that challenge, shift, or obliterate the nature-society binary. Opens for submissions for the first week of every month until 50 submissions are received.
