THE ORIGINAL WRITING RETREAT IN BRIGHTON

Let us help you get those words down

Sometimes what you really need is time, space and a whole load of tea and biscuits to get writing.

Well, it just so happens that’s exactly what happens at Brighton Writers’ Retreats. We help you set a writing target for the day, ply you with caffeine, cake, and gold stars, and keep you pepped up and motivated all day long.

All you have to do is, uh… write.

Our infamous writing retreats were born in bonny Brighton and you’ll find a whole range of writers here — from novelists to short fictioneers, screenwriters to poets, academics to journallers. Everyone is welcome. We just wanna help you fill that blank page.

So c’mon down to B-town and let us show you the motivational power of a croissant and a gold star sticker!

Accessibility?

It’s really important to us that our writing retreats are as accessible as possible!

The lecture room at Friends Meeting House is on the ground floor and fullly accessible by wheelchair via a side door.

There are automated doors into the building and the disabled toilet, and two designated Blue Badge parking bays in Ship Street which are approx 50m from the entrance to the gounds. There is also a Fixed Loop System in the Lecture Room.

If you have any additional needs, please let us know when you book so we can help to accommodate you.

Anything else?

Writers’ HQ retreats are strictly no sharing events!

We want you to focus on writing your story instead of getting anxious about other people reading it.

There is no workshopping or taught element to the retreats. It’s just about the writing!

Jo is a human who procrastinates about writing by writing about writing. Her novel White Lies won the Luke Bitmead Bursary and was published by Legend Press in 2014. She’s also had a bunch of short fiction published, won some prizes, has an MA in Shakespeare, and is currently obsessed with weird-looking 17th century mermaid tiles. Jo is the co-founder of WHQ and the queen of editing, swearing on social media, and flip-chart facilitation.

Paul has been making things since he was small. All the way from tiny Batman costumes made of bin-bags to becoming an award winning writer and theatre maker. As a writer and maker he is working on a novel (who isn’t, right? Keep going everyone!) and a short film and a novella and a theatre show and… you get the picture. Seeing others realising their creative ambitions inspires him, so he also works as a creative coach – helping people to live, make and share what they love.
