Look, we get it. We have the same problem. We make the grandest of plans – Booker Prize winning plans… Pulitzer winning plans! – but life gets in the way.
There’s always one more thing to do, or one more stupid thing to look at on the Internet. Before you know it, it’s gone midnight, you’re sitting in your pants eating Dairy Milk, and you’ve written 25 words. Ugh. That’s why we’ve developed our retreats, in which we turn off the wifi and make you get on with it.
Because the only way to get your writing done is to sit down and write.

Glasgow Writers’ Retreat is lead by MELISSA STIRLING-REID.
Melissa is a curious writer, reader, and photograph-taker who lives by the sea and drinks more tea than water. She recently completed a PhD in Creative Writing (ooh, fancy) and is currently revising the coming-of-age novel that she began as part of that. Her work – both fiction and creative nonfiction – has been published several places, including being broadcast on BBC Radio 4. During her PhD, Melissa founded Quotidian Literary Magazine, and since 2015, she has been teaching Creative Writing to undergrads and masters students at Strathclyde. She keeps an observational blog (www.somethingnoticed.com) which is sort of a love letter to the ordinary.

Getting here
Getting here: The venue doesn’t always seem to come up on map apps, but if you search for ‘Woodlands Community Garden’ then the workspace is about 30 seconds away from there on the corner of West Princes Street and Ashley Street (i.e. if the garden gate is on your left, keep walking and then, at the corner of the street you’ll see the workspace on your left. It’s a cute little glass box of a building – you can’t miss it).
Parking: The venue is a 2 minute walk from St George’s Cross subway station, so we’d recommend parking at one of the park-and-ride stations – Shields Road or Kelvinbridge, for instance – and then getting the subway to the venue. Street parking is available by Woodlands Workspace if you’d rather park right outside and the street is generally quiet, but because of Glasgow’s new parking restrictions you need to run out and top up the meter every 3 hours so it can get a bit expensive/annoying if it’s raining.
Public transport: As above, the venue is a 2 minute walk from St George’s Cross subway station (note: the subway opens at 10am on Sundays). There are also regular buses from the city centre and the venue is just off Great Western Road.
