It’s hot. The kids are sitting on your head. Holiday clubs are costing more per minute than your annual salary. But you still need to keep writing. Here’s a bunch of stuff to help you keep going regardless.
Set your expectations appropriately
- Set yourself up with a summer holiday writing project and stay on target with the Project Tracker, which comes with a breakdown of how much you have to do, when to hit your targets, and gold stars for hitting milestones. Because nothing motivates grown adults more than gold stars. (It’s true. We have over a decade of evidence proving it.)
- If you need help figuring out how much time you have and when you can get stuff done, check out the The WHQ Guide to Productivity.
- Stay on track with monthly Goal Setting & Troubleshooting workshops.
What to do with not a lot of time, aka how to keep your sanity in tact
(Or don’t keep it. Just scream into the void. That’s also fine.)
Set yourself a micro writing challenge, for example to journal for five minutes or write 100 words a day over the holidays. There’s no link to a resource here because do you need anything more than the thing we just said? You can always post about it on le forums and, as ever, we’ll cheer you on.
If all you can carve out is one hour every week, join us for our summer Write Alongs every Monday, and we’ll make sure you spend that time writing your butt off.
What to do if you have no brain to write anything new
You can still send existing stuff into the wild. Check our comps and subs opportunities here.
A whole bunch of hand-holding courses
If you can carve out 10 or 20 minutes a day, these courses will help you stay focused.
- Intro to Journaling is a super gentle and nurturing way to keep yourself going over the summer.
- Couch to 5k Words is exactly 28 days so will see you through most of August.
- Or if everything is all too higgledy piggledy, check Balance Your Writing Life to find some, uh, balance.
