Writers’ HQ needs you!
We are looking to expand our procrastination-busting in-person one-day writers’ retreats across the UK in 2025.
Our ideal candidate will be an early career writer who is looking to branch out into teaching/facilitating, who is approachable, professional, lively and fun, and has interesting things to say about writing. Bonus points for a love of the Shakespeare-old literary tradition of inventing innovative swear words.
You need to be:
- An early career writer with a publishing history (doesn’t have to be a major publishing history. Short stories in indie lit mags counts!)
- Reliable, with connections to the writing community in your area
- Able to run one retreat once a month on a Saturday or a Sunday
- Friendly, personable, supportive, love writing, love reading
A WORD ABOUT CREATIVE WRITING DEGREES
We love ‘em! We’ve got a handful between us! But you don’t need one to apply for this position. Previously, our facilitators have had archaeology degrees, a City & Guilds in Stonemasonry, a qualification in bread making and no degree at all. We just need to know that you write, that you’re good at writing, you’re good at talking about writing, and that you lurve the writing. A creative writing degree doesn’t necessarily prove that.
PAY
This is a freelance position.
We pay £180 per retreat.
We will give you full training and support to get going with a venue and all the things you need.
HOW TO APPLY
Send your CV and cover letter to Sarah – sarah@writershq.co.uk. Let us know what region you would like to run retreats in.
Use subject “Writers retreat facilitator job”.
Please don’t angst too hard over your CV. We’re only going to glance at it – it’s literally just to see that you’re a human who has previously humaned with other humans. Your normal job CV is fine, and you can put your writerly experience in your cover letter.
