write what you know
(EVEN WHEN YOU THINK YOU KNOW NOTHING, JON SNOW)

Two weeks in and loving it. Apart from all the ideas, it’s really confidence-inspiring for someone who puts off writing in case I can’t do it. Stupid really. This is breaking down a lot of the obstacles i put in my own way. Thanks WHQ!

Just what I needed….

I have really enjoyed this course. It has made me realise the value of a writing resource I have had all along…..me!
I have found the course to be challenging and revealing – and now I feel confident to move on with my writing. This is my stand-out favourite of the Writers’ HQ courses I have done so far, although I have found them all to be valuable in different ways.

It is clear to me why someone would return to do this course again….and I understand that people often do. I may very well do so myself, since we are all changing all the time….

Thank you!

On to the next….

It’s my editing blueprint for good, for now, forever! I could write a song about this course .. but instead I’ll sing your praises and say how you’ve taken the huge job of drafting a novel and made it simple .. well, simpler, because you have the knack of getting right to the heart of what a novel is, what it’s for, how it works as an entity, who inhabits it. About midway through the course I had a personal business crash that required my total attention to fix, and it’s a shame because I was enjoying the forum and taking part in it. BUT I was safe in the knowledge that if I could get back to reality and my life quick enough, I could continue and I have – and completed! I have a deadline to fulfil with my writing group and if I can manage it, I will return to the Forum too before the course ends in a few days. I will undoubtedly be returning for the course on Submission to an Agent but I’m nowhere near ready. Can I just say how helpful it was knowing the course materials would continue to be up on the site as I’ve desperately needed this time.

My only crit would be, and I mean it in a positive way, is that I felt the whole course could have been double the length anyway – as in 3 months, and then another 6 weeks for the materials to be up on the site. Many exercises of ’60 mins’ or ’45 mins’ took days or a whole week! By the way, more expensive courses I’ve taken (e.g. for thousands!) were NOTHING compared to this!! Bless you, and though I wish you EVERY SUCCESS with your own writing, I hope you DON’T STOP DOING THIS!!! A THOUSAND THANKS.

Write What you Know
Amazing course

I loved this course, thank you so much. Absolutely amazing.
It really made me think about what I write and why I write what I write – which is, of course, the point of the course.
I believe I have a much better understanding of myself and how the ‘me’ that is inside me pushes her way into my writing brain and gives birth to all the things I normally want to hide away. It’s all good. I can stop fighting her now and let her get on with it. She knows what she’s doing – I’ll sit back and enjoy the ride.
I know I’ll be returning to elements of this course again, and again, over the next few weeks, months, years. Yes, I can see me being a member for many years to come.
You ladies absolutely rock!

Write What you Know
A fantastic kickstarter for writing

Regardless of your writing experience, I highly recommend this course. Packed with material to add depth to your writing and spark ideas for new projects, it’s the perfect lubricant for the cogs in our writerly brains.

I’ve started a new writing project since this course and my overall writing has become a lot richer. What’s more, I feel like I’m truly expressing myself and not just writing words onto the void.

Cheers WHQ x

No matter how much or little writing experience you have, no matter how low your writing confidence is (we’re talking to you, imposter syndromers), no matter what you want to write about or how little you think you know, we’re here to PROVE that you have a wealth of writing knowledge just ready to be unleashed on the world. After all, you are a human person thing, and you have all these emotions and life experiences and feelings and thoughts and you have seen things, man. You know things. You have lived. Which means: you can write. Over the course of four weeks we’re going to show you how to harness the power of your innate human-y knowledge; how to draw from what you DO know and translate that into fantastical, imaginative, moving, amazing fiction.  We know that sometimes writing into the unknown can be terrifying. How do you put yourself into the shoes of someone other than yourself? How do you visualise and accurately depict a place you’ve never been? How do you write about something you’ve never done and make it feel REAL? You start with what you know.  You use the experiences you already have on tap and adapt them, tweak ’em, manipulate and amplify them until they serve your purposes. You show your writing chops and turn what you know into what you don’t know in a believable, honest, and realistic way.  Sounds easy/difficult/terrifying, huh? Yep. All of those.  But we’re gonna do it anyway.  So join us for a month full of pep, exercises, prompts and guidance on harvesting all the amazing things you know into your writing.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section tab_id=”1570293069387-b07b8985-01f75992-f703″ title=”CURRICULUM”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Week 1: What do you ACTUALLY know? 1) Five things you know 2) Giving value to your own experiences 3) What’s your theme? 4) Why truth and realism matter 5) Making a Life CV 6) Three more important things 7) Rest your writerly brain Week 2: People, Places and Things 1) Embodying an experience 2) Take me to a faraway place 3) All the things 4) A pause and a catch-up 5) Story ingredients 6) Resources and research 7) Pep & relaxation[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Week 3: Feelings and emotions 1) Right in the feels 2) Emotional intelligence 3) The only two stories in the world 4) Transference 5) An interlude (and some poetry) 6) A round-up reminder 7) Get pepped Week 4: Writing AROUND it 1) Reframing 2) Discovery 3) Let’s go macro 4) Whaddaya want? 5) Why are we doing this again? 6) All the things we know 7) And so, the end[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section tab_id=”1570293565423-d19a321c-16ce5992-f703″ title=”HOW IT WORKS”][vc_column_text]1.
