Online, 10am – 4pm

No Distractions. No Excuses. Just Writing.

With the world being {waves arms furiously} like this, it’s sometimes really hard to focus.

That’s why we’ve developed our state-of-the-art, cutting edge, highest of all high tech online writing retreats. That’s a retreat for writers. A writers’ retreat, if you will. An online retreat for writers, for free. Woo!

During each retreat we give you the ultimate pep-shakedown, give you supportive accountability, and help you to get on and do the work.

Because the only way to get your story written is to sit down and write it.

What happens at a Writers' HQ online writers' retreat?

Writing, and lots of it.

Start the day with a brief Zoomy webinar where we get you to set your writing goal for the day and then pep you into a writerly frenzy.

We’ll give you set times to write and to check in on our forums, where you can use our gang of awesome writers to help keep you motivated and accountable. We write in sprints – 20-30 minutes of work, 5-10 minutes’ break, rinse, repeat, get the job done thank you very much.

Then at the end of the retreat, check in again on Zoom for a debrief, gold stars, and rounds of applause for all your hard work.

I don’t think I could be motivated to write without them. Most productive Sunday in a long time. I wrote 1300 words! Thanks Writers’ HQ.

Who are Writers' HQ online writers' retreat for?

For anyone still unsure as to whether the online writing retreats are worth your time, I say this: I hadn’t written anything significant in months and signed up for one retreat. In those six hours I planned and entire children’s fiction trilogy I’d been mulling over. Then the lockdown happened so I signed up for all the weekend retreats and I completed the first draft of the first book in 25 days! The motivation these retreats provide is an undeniable gift. Thank you Sarah and Jo and all the other retreat hosts, I am eternally grateful.

Yes. You need a free Writers’ HQ account and you need to register for each retreat, but there is no money needed to join a WHQ online retreat.
Nope. We start the day on Zoom for about 30 minutes to say hello and set our goals, then we all head our separate ways to write, with periodic forum check ins to see how we’re all doing, and finish the day with a Zoom debrief.

Nope. WHQ creative writing retreats are strictly non-sharing events. We want you to focus on writing your story instead of getting anxious about other people reading it.

There is no workshopping or taught element to the retreats. I

t’s just about the writing. For taught courses please check out our superduper range of online courses.

If you’re after a beta reader or want to share your work, head over to the forum and check out Flash Face Off or Swipe Write.

Either ask at the beginning of the day on Zoom or head over to the forums and ask in the online retreat space. Someone will be along to help you soon!

Let us know! We do our best to make sure our venues and events are accessible and we put accommodations in place where ever you need. Just email help@writershq.co.uk or fill in the little form when you book your place and we’ll leap into action with keenness and speed.

Okay I’m sold. Where? When? I want in!
