Walthamstow Writers’ Retreat

Come write with us! A day of uninterrupted writing, tea-drinking, and croissant eating. Set your goals, write your words, win gold stars. Bliss!

The best one-day writing retreat in brilliant Walthamstow

In need of time & space to write? Yeah, us too. Which is why we created our famously productive one-day writing retreats — to give writers the headspace and the writing space they need to let their words flow. A supportive environment + an endless supply of caffeine ‘n ‘snacks + gold stars for motivation + all the pep and encouragement you could ever need = the perfect set up for writing bliss. Our Walthamstow writing retreat is one of our most popular sessions, filled with like-minded creatives working on a whole heap of different and exciting projects. There’s no pressure — no awkward ice-breakers — just a safe place for you to write to your heart’s content. So get your butt down to Walthamstow Writers’ Retreat and let us help you get the words out (of your brain, not your butt).

Directions

St Mary’s is a seven-minute walk from Walthamstow Central station which is on both the Victoria Line and the London Overground network, or via the 212 (Church Hill) and W12 (Ancient House) London bus routes. Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle (we have bicycle stands) or take public transport whenever possible as parking around the church is extremely limited; however, St Mary’s runs a small, reasonably-priced car park in front of the St Mary’s Welcome Centre, which is the church hall located just across the churchyard from the church. A space in the Welcome Centre car park, which is accessible via Church Lane, can be booked via the Just Park mobile phone app or via the Just Park website.

Accessibility

If you have any additional needs, please let us know when you book so we can help to accommodate you. St Mary’s is fully accessible to those who use a wheelchair, stick or mobility scooter, with a specially-designated, fully accessible disabled toilet further inside the church, near the cafe area. There are no steps on the ground floor of the church building, making the entire ground floor space easily accessible for all.

Anything else?

Writers’ HQ retreats are strictly no sharing events! We want you to focus on writing your story instead of getting anxious about other people reading it. There is no workshopping or taught element to the retreats. It’s just about the writing.

Read this before going to the forum!

The widget that lets you sign into the forum with your WHQ login has given up.

We are trying to coax it back into existence. So far neither bribery, begging or crying has worked. We are currently trying shaking our fists at the sky and going ‘grrrr’.

You can still get to the forum though! Do this:

  1. Click the button below
  2. On the forum login page, click reset password USING THE SAME EMAIL YOU USE FOR WHQ
  3. Click the link in the email and reset your password

IMPORTANT: This means you will have TWO (2) passwords/logins. One for the WHQ main site and one for the forum. It’s a pain in the arse. We’re sorry. It is temporary, but at least you can dick about on the forum again. OKAY BYE.
