Want to learn about bats (who doesn’t?!) AND write a story featuring these amazing little cutiepatooties? Join us for this Halloween Writers’ HQ Special!

The Bat Conservation Trust and Writers’ HQ have teamed up to deliver a unique hour-long interactive, generative workshop with real bats appearing livestreamed on screen. Not only will you learn more about some of the different kind of species in the UK, their behaviour, and common misconceptions, but you will also be exploring and brainstorming story ideas through guided writing exercises while having the rare opportunity to watch these little critters going about their business before your very eyes.

**Please note that all bats in the UK are protected by law and those on screen during this event came into captivity for care but did not regain fitness, so could not be released back into the wild.

Bat Lady (official title!) Gail Armstrong has a licence from Natural England allowing them to be kept for education, which enables them to act as ambassadors for wild bats at events like this. The rest of the time they live in large enclosures with a good standard of care and usually live for many years stress- and pain-free.**

Your host for these shenanigans...
Veronique runs the Writers’ HQ Edinburgh retreats and also hosts online weekend retreats and write-alongs. She writes short stories, flash fiction and has recently finished her first novel. When she’s not writing you can usually find her in the cinema or on social media.

Read this before going to the forum!

The widget that lets you sign into the forum with your WHQ login has given up.

We are trying to coax it back into existence. So far neither bribery, begging or crying has worked. We are currently trying shaking our fists at the sky and going ‘grrrr’.

You can still get to the forum though! Do this:

  1. Click the button below
  2. On the forum login page, click reset password USING THE SAME EMAIL YOU USE FOR WHQ
  3. Click the link in the email and reset your password

IMPORTANT: This means you will have TWO (2) passwords/logins. One for the WHQ main site and one for the forum. It’s a pain in the arse. We’re sorry. It is temporary, but at least you can dick about on the forum again. OKAY BYE.
