Welp, the apocalypse is really going for it right now. We’ve got America with the most stupid fascist coup in history, followed by the predicted-and-ignored-for-60-years Arctic melt, and add to that at least three genocides currently going on across the world. What the fuck is one tiny writer of weird-ass fiction supposed to do?
We know you can often feel despondent or think it’s pointless to carry on writing with all this going on. A lot of us are feeling like we want to do something, but have no idea what.
You don’t have to seduce Nazis, lead them to secluded woods and shoot them in the head to fight the fash. (Or you don’t ONLY have to do that). The writer exists to look at how things are and how things could be, to look at the world and reflect it back to itself.
With horror at every turn, Writers’ HQ will be here doing what we’ve always done: building true community with our writers, supporting you all to keep on going even when everything feels like hopeless bullshit, and helping you do the deep work you need to write the stories that need to be told.
Join us for this intimate and interactive community workshop, marking the launch the Writing as Resistance Festival, helping you to keep writing, prepare for the future, and stop yourself from losing your goddamn mind.
Here’s the agenda:
What are writers for?
How to understand your place as a writer when faced with multiple existential crises
How to keep engaged without burning out
Looking after yourself, writing during the apocalypse style
What to write now?
Writing exercises and prompts to help you get deeper into your work, using ideas from renown philosophers and writers
You know how this works: the good guys always win. The bad guys always lose. Our stories will show us the way. And hey, what luck, we’re the good guys. We can do this ✊
