The Brighton Prize

Myriad First Drafts Competition

Prize: The winning entry will be published in a major new international anthology in 2019, alongside 200 notable writers including Malorie Blackman, Aminatta Forna, Warsan Shire and Zadie Smith + a week’s writing retreat at West Dean College

WriteNow

A 1000 word extract of a novel or nonfiction manuscript 
Prize:
 150 writers and illustrators will be invited to one of three workshops in London (Saturday 8 September), Liverpool(Saturday 15 September) and Nottingham (Saturday 29 September). After the workshops, 10 exceptional new voices to join the WriteNow year-long mentoring programme.

Notes:
WriteNow are looking for writers from backgrounds that are currently under-represented in books and publishing, eg: you could be from a socio-economically marginalised background, identify as BAME (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) or LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer), or have a disability.

To apply for WriteNow, you should be actively working on a manuscript for a book that could be ready to publish in the next one to two years. This means for fiction or children’s/ Young Adult writers you should have written at least 20,000 words. Don’t worry if you’re still making changes, editing, or writing the final few chapters.

Non-fiction writers do not need to have a fully formed manuscript to apply – you can submit your proposal, which should be an outline of the structure and contents of your book – together with a sample of writing.

ScreenCraft Public Domain Screenplay Contest

Wasafari New Writing Prize

STERTS One-Act Playwriting Competition
