Tootily toot, it’s time to blow your flute. Not like that, you monster. We are wholesome here. Welcome to January Toots, in which we celebrate the staggering number of you who have won stuff, published stuff, finished stuff and just been generally goddamn freaking awesome.

Marie Louise McGuinness had acceptances from Raw Lit, Cosmic Daffodil, Milk Candy, and the Forge.

Terry Holland is getting Notes from a Collapsing Shore published by Seaside Gothic.

Jude Potts signed a contract from Pure Slush and was longlisted in the Free Flash Fiction Competition Nineteen, which was highly commended on the website.

Tanya Ann Boozer submitted to the Discoveries programme.

Lizzie Eldridge has a story in the UNAPOLOGETIC Invisibility & Ambiguity journal.

Carol Jones won a place in Dr Stephanie Carty’s Psychology of Character Course.

Fiona McKay had Things to Do in the Event of Fire published on Ghost Parachute and an acceptance from Raw Lit. The story Gravity is also in Trampset.

Julia Smith had three stories published in Ekphrastic Review, a piece in Bath Flash Fiction Award Anthology, was contacted by Paragraph Planet for a Soundscape project for a piece that was published in 2021, and had a story nominated for Best Small Fiction by Atlas and Alice.

Alison Wassell has a piece in the Bath Flash Fiction Award Anthology and was on the Northern Gravy and Welkin Mini longlist. The Disappointed Housewife published It’s Either This Or The Call Centre (which began life at WHQ), had an acceptance from Raw Lit and Fictive Dream for Flash Fiction February. A story that started on FFO has also been published online by Free Flash Fiction and came joint second while also winning the People’s Prize vote in the Retreat West Monthly Micro Competition.

Kati Bumbera won a “Holiday Horrors” microfiction competition by Apex magazine and has four upcoming publications in The Selkie, Dark Winter Lit, Does it Have Pockets, and The Hooghly Review, and is on the Retreat West Monthly Micro longlist.

Sarah Oakes was on the Welkin Mini shortlist, had a micro published in the Welkin Writing Prize, won the Cath Bartons writing competition, and was contacted by the Lighthouse Guild to share a piece as a positive case study of using assistive tech.

Karen Arnold was on the shortlist for the Free Flash Fiction comp, and it was highly commended, shortlisted for the Cranked Anvil flash comp, and was also on the longlist for The Welkin micro.

Mags Diep has a flash published in Iron Horse Literary Review.

Heather Haigh was on the Welkin Mini, Free Flash Fiction comp, and the gravy longlist and has had a poem accepted by Dark Winter Literary. There is also a story up on Wireworm.

Sarah Masters was longlisted for Northern Gravy and 500 Flash and was also one of the winners of the Iridescent Words challenge.

Joyce Bingham had The Glimmer published today on Sci-fi Shorts. Roi Faineant has accepted a story that began on FFO and another FFO story went to Matt Kendrick’s course for feedback.

Angela Fitzpatrick won the Cranked Anvil Flash competition, had a story published by Ink Pantry, and has a story up on Retreat West.

Jane Mooney got a ‘like’ on a pitch from an agent in an online pitch event, and a short story was shortlisted by Northern Gravy.

Mathew Gostelow has an article up on the Wrong Publishing blog.

Sarah McPherson has received a contributor copy of the latest Bath Flash Fiction anthology, which includes a longlisted story from last year, and taught another workshop for Retreat West.

Billie-Leigh Burns has acceptances from Written Tales and Funny Pearls.

Naomi Brotherton had an acceptance from Witcraft on a story that started at Flash Face Off!

Elisa received an acceptance for How to safely get home from Taronga Zoo from Roi Feineant Press that started at Flash Fiction Bootcamp. Every Day Fiction accepted another Flash Fiction Bootcamp story called My new boyf took me to watch a disaster movie.

Kimberley Moes had a story published in Jake Magazine.

Mairead Robinson won the WestWord ‘Wild’ themed micro competition with Flight of the Magpie.

Katie Marsden was brave and submitted something!
